My intervention on the Human Rights s and Canada Hypocrisy

Today, I was invited to speak about “the Canadian and GCC relation
between Human Rights Perspectives and at and realpolitik”, organized by The
Canadian Centre for Research and Arab-Persian Gulf (CCRG)
I am presenting here a highlight of my talk;
-
Human rights is a value that is equal to all, no difference between
African, Arab or Asian. There is no two categories
of humans, there is only one. And us in
North America are not different from all others.
-
Americans and Canadians still live in the imperialism era. We talk about humans rights when it is convenient
for us:
o
When we deal with third world countries, we don’t accept to be their partner
we just need to control their resources and use them as a market.
o
For us business comes before values, and democracy is not real value for
us.
o
During a discussion with one of the MPs, who is close to our PM, the MP said,
“if we deal with countries based on their human rights policies, we will never
make business with any country!”
o
During other discussion with another MP, who is also close to our PM, the
MP asked, “can you guarantee that Islamists will not infiltrate the system
under democracy?”
-
Canada pretends to be respecting human rights, but we don’t. When we are angry at China, we condemn their
records with human rights. When we are
angry at Saudi Arabia, we condemn their records with human rights. On the other hand, we deal with UAE, Egypt,
and others while their records with human rights are one of the worst.
-
Both Saudi Arabia & UAE are violating human rights
o
In 2011, during the uprising of the Bahrainis, Canada continues
supplying Saudi Arabia with weapons, while they are killing peaceful
demonstrators in Bahrain during the appraisal.
o
In 2013, they orchestrated a military coup in Egypt, and dealt with them
as if nothing happened and do business as usual with an illegitimate government.
o
In Syria, they started the war by financing and encouraging the
revolution and the rebellion within the army, and then the same people encouraged
Russia to intervene. Nine years later, the
same financier has destroyed Syria.
o
In Yemen, UAE and Saudi Arabia encouraged The Houthis to take over, and
when they were close to take over; UAE and Saudi Arabia started their war on
Yemen. Nine years later, Yemen has been destroyed,
and we still watching and put food on our tables by selling arms.
o
In Libya, it started in a good way, democracy and election. Saudi Arabia & UAE did not like the
outcome. Therefore, a coup was the only way
to turn it into a civil war. And we don’t
care!
-
All these violations of human rights
and attacks on people rights have nothing to do with terrorism, or to do
with “stopping Iran”, or with “protecting Israel”;
o
In Yemen, they terrorize women, children, and elderly people. They should be brought to court for
committing war crimes
o
In Libya, they support Hafter, who is encouraging ISIS, and has been
accused of war crimes.
o
In Egypt, they financed a military coup and continue violating human
rights by supporting a fascist regime.
Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and the UN of Human Rights,
all condemned Egypt several times.
-
If we do not act based on principles and values, history will be harsh
on us, and our children will be ashamed of us!
-
So, please speak up and do not be silent!
