There is no doubt we are extremely concerned about the coronavirus (COVID-19) that hit us very hard in all aspects of life.  We have all become prisoners of fear from this superpower that changed our way of living.  It has changed our present and our potential future. In spite of the harsh situation, it is undoubtedly like all crises, where the curve will ascend until it reaches its peak then fall, leaving behind many victims.

What is new in this crisis?  It is that some have portrayed it as a war against an invisible enemy.  It’s that it will introduce a Post-Coronavirus era. Some of us will be among its victims and will not witness this new era, the Post-Coronavirus ‘PC’ calendar.  Today, as none of us can do anything but comply with instructions that we may not agree with, we all have to start thinking seriously, what is after coronavirus.

In order to try to discover the aftermath of the coronavirus, we must understand its implications and its impact on our social, economic and political reality. I will not address the medical implications and what will be the situation at the end; but as the field’s researchers said if the cycle of this virus resembles the others, it will take the same path of ascension and refraction.

The first thing that we must do is to ask ourselves why were we not ready? Did we deal with it wisely? These questions are cross-border and cross-bound.

Undoubtedly, we were not ready because we did not realize that the world turned into a small village. However, we only cared about the impact on the economy and the business’ benefits.  We never understood the social and psychological impact and the impact on health in general.

The coronavirus warned us since the early sixties, but we did not do our homework, even when it hit us with a limited attack, "SARS 2003" and "MERS 2012". In spite of that, we ignored the issue, and allowed those who do not believe in science, and allowed the warmongers to take over our lives.

During 2019, the world’s weapons sales exceeded 1.8 trillion dollars.  Some might think that it is almost equal to the budget of scientific research at 1.7 trillion dollars.  But these 1.7 trillion dollars are a deceptive figure, because a large amount of it went to research on weapons. While only 10% of it make it to research in the health field, and most of this 10% went to research by companies out for their own benefit, rarely responding to the need of humanity.

Now, most of the countries do not consider healthcare a right, although it is an integral part of the Declaration of Human Rights.  In the contrary, healthcare has been considered a grant that governments give when it likes to do so.  Healthcare has become a commodity, that the wealthy can buy, and the untouchables get only the crumbs.

Most of us turned the expected solidarity and cohesion into selfishness. The coronavirus revealed the sad reality of today’s civilization. At a time of distress, a united Europe closed its boarders and denied supplies to its deprived neighbors, exactly as they did when they turned their back on refugees from war zones.

The Czech state stole a shipment of medical masks heading from China to Italy in an act of piracy. Italy stole a shipment of medical alcohol heading from China to Tunisia.  And let’s not forget the disappearance of medical masks heading to Germany. The US tried to bribe a German company to monopolize the right of its research in the field of coronavirus.  And many others will be revealed.

Governments are dealing with the matter for political gain.  All the arrogant Trump cares about is his re-election.  He is not concerned with anything but the return to work to avoid economic stagnation. His gang is still bullying and imposing sanctions on Iran despite its urgent need for help.  It refused to issue a joint statement with the G7, cooperating to combat the virus, under the pretext of his insistence on describing coronavirus as the “Chinese Virus” and not its scientific name COVID-19. Trump is just an example of many like-minded.

Some countries have dealt with some rationalities in some areas, including France, Germany, Italy, Iran, Jordan and others with the release of non-dangerous prisoners and prisoners of conscience. On the other hand, we find the Arab Gulf dictators, Israel and Egypt continuing to imprison tens of thousands denying them healthcare, while supplying weapons and mercenaries to destroy Yemen, Libya, Syria, and maintain the tragedy of more than 2 millions under unjust siege in Gaza.

We are silent because of coronavirus, but we have to be ready to act after coronavirus, and not fall into the illusion of coronavirus's plot.  This will be the plot of big businesses taking advantage of this crisis. They will accumulate profit and will use the occasion to foul us, as if they are the ones who saved what remains of us.

Are we going to give up our selfishness? Are we going to understand that it is immoral to enjoy our wealth while our neighbors are poor? Are we going to understand that it is immoral to think that we can live a decent life while our neighbors are imprisoned and humiliated? Are we going to understand that globalization is for the well-being of people and we people have to take control over it?

Or, will the world continue as if nothing happened? As if coronavirus did not storm through our lives.  And we will go back to beg for healthcare, borrow to buy weapons, worship fascists, and re-elect Trump and his likeness and every dictator!
